3 Scriptures You Can Pray Over Missionaries Right Now
A lot of times, I use “I don’t know what to pray” as an excuse for not immediately praying for someone. It’s rather sad, that I don’t think I will say the right thing to Jesus to get Him to listen but that’s not how it works. Luckily, when my words fail, I can use the scriptures to pray the same prayers the Apostles prayed.
Here’s 3 scriptures I pray over my missionary friends regularly:
“For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience.” [Colossians 1: 9-11]
I really like this one because it gets right to the point. If you’ve ever served in the missions field before, you know that being filled with the wisdom and understanding is crucial. Also, bearing fruit in every good work? Yes please Lord!
“As for other matters, brothers and sisters, pray for us that the message of the Lord may spread rapidly and be honored, just as it was with you. And pray that we may be delivered from wicked and evil people, for not everyone has faith. But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one. We have confidence in the Lord that you are doing and will continue to do the things we command. May the Lord direct your hearts into God’s love and Christ’s perseverance.” [2 Thessalonians 3: 1-5]
Yes! We want the word of the Lord to spread rapidly. That all that hear it would know it in their minds and hearts! And yes yes! I will always pray for protection for our missionary friends no matter where they are!
“Night and day we pray most earnestly that we may see you again and supply what is lacking in your faith. Now may our God and Father himself and our Lord Jesus clear the way for us to come to you. May the Lord make your love increase and overflow for each other and for everyone else, just as ours does for you. May he strengthen your hearts so that you will be blameless and holy in the presence of our God and Father when our Lord Jesus comes with all his holy ones.” [1 Thessalonians 3: 10-13]
It says in scripture that people will know us by HIS love. We must show each other love while in the field both for our fellow missionaries and for those that we are sharing the Gospel to. I love praying this scripture over our missionary friends!
So when my words fail, Scripture can take over and give me the words that I feel like I lack. Now in reality, even just crying out to God saying “Lord help our missionary friends!” is so simple and indeed sufficient. I just love that even in Scripture we see and are encouraged to pray for our brothers and sisters that are sharing the Gospel both locally and abroad to all who have hearts to hear!
